Commemoration event National Day of Mourning 2018

National Day of Mourning is a day of remembrance for the international victims of violence and terror. The commemoration day, founded in 1919 by the German War Graves Commission (VDK), will take place on November 18 this year. On this occasion we gather at 3 p.m. in the auditorium of the Goethe School to give a speech about the forced laborers who died in Bochum, 307 of whom were buried in a burial ground in Bochum. Then we go to this burial ground in the flower cemetery to get information about the individual fates of the foreign workers. The grave is neglected and looks neglected. Our goal is to build a venerable burial ground for these dead and to create a memorial.Gedenktag für die internationalen Opfer von Gewalt und Terror. Der 1919 vom Volksbund Deutscher Kriegsgräberfürsorge (VDK) gegründete Gedenktag findet in diesem Jahr am 18. November statt. Zu diesem Anlass versammeln wir uns um 15 Uhr in der Aula der Goethe-Schule, um dort eine Rede über die in Bochum gestorbenen Zwangsarbeiter zu halten, von denen 307 auf einem Gräberfeld in Bochum beigesetzt wurden. Anschließend begeben wir uns zu diesem Gräberfeld auf dem Blumenfriedhof, um dort Infos über Einzelschicksale der Fremdarbeiter zu erhalten. Das Grab ist ungepflegt und wirkt verwahrlost. Unser Ziel ist es, diesen Toten eine ehrwürdige Grabstätte zu errichten und einen Gedenkort zu schaffen.
Dealing with this topic is of enormous importance. By coming to terms with the fate of forced laborers and by maintaining the burial site, we contribute to actively commemorating the suffering of the forced laborers.
